I am interested in gauge theory, quantum gravity, string theory and their relations, and my current research theme is field theoretical formulation of string theory, string field theory.
Studies of string theory have provided us plenty of insights into a consistent quantum theory including gravity, which is one of the primary concern in theoretical physics.
However, non-perturbative aspects of string theory remain largely mysterious yet: it is defined only perturbatively with respect to a coupling constant on a given consistent background, and only on-shell scattering amplitudes can be calculated.
String field theory is one possible approach to these problems.
