I am interested in the subject of string field theory---a formulation of string theory characterized by fields which satisfy fundamental field equations, somewhat analogous (and generalizing) the electric and magnetic fields which satisfy Maxwell's equations. In this formalism, I hope to get a better understanding of background independence in string theory; a consistent formulation of superstring field theory; and spacetime properties such as topological charges, locality, and time evolution as relevant for cosmology.
